In the first 2–6 weeks after surgery, your surgeon will typically recommend a soft, front-closure bra without underwire. The priority at this stage is protection and comfort while your tissue heals - not fit or form. Look for bras with front fastenings, no bones or underwire, and soft, flat seams.

Many women find a slightly larger size comfortable in the early weeks as

Coverage varies by province. In Ontario, the ADP (Assistive Devices
Program) provides funding toward breast prostheses and may cover bras in
certain categories. Quebec's RAMQ and Nova Scotia's MSI offer similar programs. Most provincial plans require a physician's prescription and a fitting by a certified specialist - which Naturally You's Amoena Certified Mastectomy

A mastectomy bra has one or two built-in breast form pockets - fabric pouches sewn into the cup that hold a breast prosthesis securely in place throughout the day. They're designed so the prosthesis doesn't shift, show, or need repositioning.

The construction is also different: mastectomy bras typically have wider side panels, a more supportive underbust band, and no wires that could press against lymph nodes or surgical sites.

Standard bras don't have these pockets and aren't designed to accommodate the weight and position of a breast form.

Yes. Amoena's styles are great with or without prostheses or breast forms. They include built-in pockets to securely hold whatever form you need.

For most women, wire-free mastectomy bras are recommended for at least the first 6–12 months after surgery, and many women prefer them long-term.

The concern with underwire is that it can press on lymph nodes, scar tissue, or
areas where lymph drainage has been disrupted, which can cause discomfort or, in some cases, contribute to lymphedema.

Once your surgeon has cleared you, some women do return to lightly-wired styles - but only after a fitting to ensure the wire placement is correct for their post-surgical anatomy. Our certified fitters can advise you on this specifically.
