How do I choose a breast form after mastectomy?

The best place to start is with a private fitting. Our certified fitters will ask about your surgery type (full mastectomy, lumpectomy, bilateral), your current bra size, your lifestyle, and how you want the form to feel day-to-day.


From there, we narrow down from our full Amoena catalogue to the 2–3 forms that are most likely to be right for you. Most women find the right form much faster with a guided fitting than by browsing on their own. Book a fitting here.

Does my provincial health plan cover a breast prosthesis?

Many do. Ontario's ADP (Assistive Devices Program) covers up to $195 every two years toward a breast prosthesis. Quebec's RAMQ and Nova Scotia's MSI offer similar programs. Other provinces have varying levels of coverage.

What's the difference between silicone, fiberfill, and air-adjustable breast forms?

Silicone forms: (like Amoena's Natura and Essential lines) are the
most popular - they mimic the weight, warmth, and movement of natural breast
tissue most closely.

Fiberfill forms: are ultra-lightweight and soft - often recommended as a starter form immediately post-surgery, or for women who prefer a lighter option for everyday wear.

Air-adjustable forms: (the Amoena Adapt Air range) use a discreet air valve to let you add or release volume in seconds - ideal for women whose body is still changing post-surgery or who want a form that adapts to different days and outfits. Can I wear a breast form while swimming?

Yes - many Amoena breast forms are swim-safe. Look for forms specifically labelled as "swim-ready" or "waterproof" in the product description. These forms can be worn in chlorinated pools, salt water, and freshwater without damage.

What is a contact breast form and is it right for me?

A contact form - sometimes called a self-adhesive form - attaches directly to the chest wall using a gentle medical-grade adhesive, allowing you to go without a bra or wear backless and strapless styles. Contact forms are popular with active women, women who swim, and women with bilateral mastectomies who prefer not to wear a bra at all. They require a fully healed surgical site (usually 6–12 months post-surgery).

Can I get a custom-made breast form?
