CuraScar - Clinically Supported Scar Therapy for Post-Mastectomy Skin

Scarring after mastectomy is one of the aspects of recovery that isn't always talked about, but it matters. Your scar is part of your healing story, and taking care of it gently, at the right time, with the right product, can make a meaningful difference to how your skin looks and feels over the months and years ahead.

CuraScar is a silicone scar therapy system developed specifically for post-surgical scars. Silicone is the gold standard in scar care, recommended by dermatologists and plastic surgeons - and CuraScar translates that clinical backing into a product that's practical for daily life: self-adhesive, washable, comfortable against healing skin, and discreet under clothing. Once your incision has fully closed (typically 4–6 weeks post-surgery, though your surgeon's advice always takes priority), CuraScar can be applied daily to support scar softening, flattening, and pigmentation improvement.

We carry the full CuraScar range to suit different scar shapes, sizes, and locations. If you're unsure which option is right for your scar, our fitters can advise, or feel free to contact us directly.

Frequently Asked Questions

What should I wear immediately after mastectomy surgery?

In the first days following mastectomy, most women are most comfortable in a soft, front-fastening recovery camisole with built-in drain pockets. These allow you to manage surgical drains discreetly without fumbling with fastenings or putting your arms above your head. A soft, non-underwire compression bra or post-surgical bra worn over or instead of the camisole provides gentle support for healing tissue. Your surgical team may give specific recommendations - but if you're looking for products that align with typical post-mastectomy care, our fitting specialists can guide you to the right starting combination for your situation.

How long do I need to wear a compression bra after mastectomy?

This varies by individual, surgery type, and surgeon recommendation - but most women are advised to wear a compression bra for a minimum of 4–6 weeks post-surgery, and many continue wearing mastectomy-specific bras as their everyday preference. If you've had reconstruction surgery, your surgeon may have specific compression requirements and duration. For lymphedema management, compression garments are typically a longer-term or lifelong recommendation. When in doubt, follow your surgical team's advice, and contact us if you want help finding a bra that meets your medical requirements while also being comfortable to wear.

Does provincial funding cover compression bras or garments after mastectomy?

In many Canadian provinces, yes. Compression garments related to mastectomy and lymphedema care may be fully or partially covered by provincial health programs. Eligibility varies by program, product type, and whether you have a valid prescription from a physician. Our team can help you determine what's covered in your province and how to navigate the claim process. See our Provincial Funding Guide for full details.

When is the right time to start using a scar care product after breast surgery?

Most clinicians recommend beginning silicone scar therapy once the surgical incision has fully closed. This is typically around 4–6 weeks post-surgery, though the timing depends on your individual healing progress and your surgeon's guidance. Starting too early (on open or incompletely healed skin) is not recommended. Once the skin is fully closed, consistent daily use of a silicone scar product like CuraScar can help improve scar texture, softness, and appearance. Scar healing continues for up to 18 months, so even starting several months after surgery can still be beneficial. If you have any doubt about timing, ask your surgeon or your Naturally You fitter. We're happy to help you think through the right moment to begin.

What is lymphedema, and how do these garments help?

Lymphedema is a condition where lymphatic fluid builds up in body tissues, causing swelling, often in the arm, hand, chest, or underarm area. It can occur after breast cancer surgery when lymph nodes are removed or damaged, disrupting the normal drainage of lymphatic fluid. Symptoms include a feeling of heaviness, tightness, swelling, or reduced range of motion in the affected area.

Compression garments, specifically graduated compression sleeves, gauntlets, and compression bras, are one of the primary tools for managing lymphedema. They work by applying controlled external pressure that encourages lymphatic drainage and prevents fluid accumulation.

Fit is critical: an incorrectly fitted lymphedema garment can be ineffective or cause harm. We strongly recommend a fitting consultation before purchasing a lymphedema garment. Our certified specialists can help you find the right garment and ensure it's fitted correctly for your anatomy and condition.
